Northpaw Brewing – Love Movement Tart Milkshake IPA Review

Love Movement Tart Milkshake IPA from Port Coquitlam’s Northpaw Brew Co. is a collaboration with (Port) Moody Ales and Another Beer Co. of New Westminster. As recently described in What’s Brewing’s weekly Hopline newsletter, it’s a fundraiser for The British Columbia Black History Awareness Society and Soroptimist International of the Tri-Cities. It’s also meant to help raise awareness of diversity in brewing.

During Northpaw’s Second Anniversary celebration, we had a small sample of this beer at the brewery as part of a flight. However, when we were able to properly evaluate the packaged product we realized how impressive this beer is.

On the nose, there is a very nice bouquet, with tropical notes including pineapple and banana. On the palate, this milkshake IPA is silky smooth. There is none of the acidity you’ll find on the back end with some hazy IPAs; this lactose-enhanced brew has fully rounded edges with a pleasant finish. Love Movement has a nicely balanced tropical fruit flavour with pineapple, blood orange, and guava, as well as notes of vanilla.

As you’ll see, the mark we just gave this beer is extremely high, and it’s fully earned. Congratulations to brewer Kristy Isaak, a graduate of the KPU Brewing School. This is a really enjoyable beer. And it’s not just good for the community, it’s good for your taste buds too.

Pillowy soft with a beautiful aroma and flavour, Love Movement is a complete winner. If you thought lactose IPAs were a spent fad, find a way to acquire a can of this and you’ll climb back on the milk wagon. Currently, the beer is available on tap at Northpaw, Moody Ales, Another Beer Co, Trading Post, Orange Kitchen, and Polito’s.
