Main Street Brewing – Screaming Sasquatch Fresh Hop Tart IPA

Overview

Main Street Brewing – Screaming Sasquatch Fresh Hop Tart IPA Review

Main Street Brewing shows that it’s willing to try something different with the Screaming Sasquatch Fresh Hop Tart IPA. Nothing like a standard IPA, and nothing like a kettle sour, it’s a fusion between East and West Coast IPA styles, with souring and dry hopping on top.

The brew is currenly listed on the BC Ale Trail‘s Tastes of Autumn feature page, accompanied by the descriptor ‘fresh Sasquatch hops that were flash-frozen with liquid nitrogen and then smashed, releasing more lupulin character’. Meanwhile, the brewery’s own page mentions tangerine, sweet citrus, pomelo and mango, alongside the guarantee, ‘Screaming Sasquatch is sure to raise the hair on the back of your neck’.

Since the beer is framed as an IPA,  let’s review it as such, but with the understanding that fresh hop IPAs are like snowflakes. On the nose of this unique brew, we got stone fruit (peach), and tropical flavours (coconut and pineapple), as well as a hint of almond.

On the palate, the liquid is tart as advertised, being slightly acidic and maybe lactic. In terms of density, it has good mouthfeel, so the experience is a hybrid of hazy IPA a kettle sour. We noticed tropical flavours as well as grapefruit and a lemony note.

One of the reasons we got into craft beer is to chase new flavour experiences. With Screaming Sasquatch, we got something we hadn’t had before. Check it out.
