Overview

Ile Sauvage Brewing Co- Tasty Hoppy Brown Ale Review

Tasty is a tribute to Mike “Tasty” McDole, a famous homebrewer ( a household name in the California homebrew community)who recently passed away in October of 2020. In a recent Instagram post the brewery called Tasty, “one of the most influential people in teaching us how to brew” and that he was generous with his knowledge and time. The beer is based on Tasty’s award-winning brown ale recipe. If you’ve never had a chance to try a really good example of an American-style brown (think hoppy and bitter rather than the dessert sweetness of many British-style browns) then definitely seek this beer out.

Tasty is reddish-brown with a big tan head that lingers well. There is a nice old school hop aroma, herbal and citrusy, with notes of lemon, grapefruit, and pine. Tasty is medium-bodied with low carbonation and the pillowy mouthfeel of wheat. It is moderately bitter with earthy and woody hop flavour combined with soft roasted and caramel malts. The finish is mildly bitter and nicely hoppy.
