Cunning Plan Cider

Overview

Cunning Plan Cider Review

Tim Vandergrift has years of experience in the Lower Mainland craft brewing scene, from homebrewing club leader, to  community organizer, to commercial craft brewer. Recently he moved from Fraser Mills Fermentation to Dogwood Brewing, and with this new home base came the opportunity to branch out.

More than just a brewer, Tim is a general fermenter known also for wines, who can also make a mean mead. But he’s chosen to throw his kilt in the ring (oops, unintended visual) with a snappy new apple cider brand. Apparently, Tim must be a Black Adder fan because his new label, ‘Cunning Plan‘, inspires medieval visions of a scowling and displeased Rowan Atkinson.

Recently we were given the opportunity to sample a few cans of Cunning Plan Cider. Here’s what we thought.

This off-dry cider has generous fruit on the nose, complemented by a modest vinous note.

Clean, crisp and fruity on the palate, this is an honest beverage that does what the label says: “Tastes like apples”. Balanced and accessible, this cider hits the not-too-sweet spot.

Four people tasted the cider and all were pleased. You’ll note that we scored it highly for enjoyment, with a rating of “Would certainly drink this one again.”

For those drinkers who find that some craft ciders are too puckering or sharp, this is an easy-drinking treat. But don’t forget that 6.1% ABV hides in this swiggable golden liquid.
