Bomber Brewing – Shutout Stout Review
In addition to Bomber Brewing’s stellar lineup of canned beers comes a seasonal variety in an appropriate bomber bottle. First up is the Shutout Stout, an Oatmeal Stout brewed in the relatively new, East Vancouver Brewery. This beer appears a pitch-black colour topped with a finger and a half of thick, rather brown in colour head. The aroma is strong with chocolate, roasted malts and a slight hop bitterness. The flavour starts strong while remaining light on the tongue. Big cacao tones along with coffee and roasted malts build into an even greater hop bitterness near the end. With a reasonably mild IBU rating of 45 the bitterness is actually rather intense. Don’t take this as meaning the beer is bad because it is actually rather nice. The texture is thick but light with a strong and big flavour profile. This may not be a beer for the summer ahead but it is a perfect beer for the evening once the temperature has cooled down.

If I remember right I felt the bitterness come more from burnt coffee flavour than the hops.
