Overview

Yukon Brewing – Fruitcake Spiced Ale Review

We all have mixed feelings about fruitcake! Love them or hate them, they are a tradition during the holiday season and so too are the beers that try to eminate the good feelings we have of them.

Yukon Brewing has been creating various versions of a spiced fruit ale for more than 10 years. This years version, classified as a Winter Warmer at only 5.5 %, smells and tastes like fruitcake, chocked full of the traditional fruits you expect  with just a hint of ginger and spice.

The base is an amber ale actually brewed with dried cherries, cranberries & mandarin oranges, so it’s not surprizing it pours a rich deep copper almost garnet colour. The body and carbonation is light, making it an easy beer to drink. The malt base is slightly sweet with notes of demerara sugar and caramel, which nicely balances with the tart berries. A perfect holiday ale.
