Vice & Virtue Brewing – The Supplier IPA Review

The two-year-old Vice & Virtue Brewing out of Kelowna continues to deliver with its innovative and fun hop-forward yet approachable IPA’s. The Supplier IPA, released earlier this year, (with very creative and clever artwork on the label-although I’m not sure what actor/comedian Bill Murray has to do with the beer, but its a catchy label!) is just one example.

Vice & Virtue decided to  “blend two popular IPA styles; West Coast and East Coast for The Supplier IPA. It combines the use of three trendy hops, Chinook (known for its piney qualities), Comet (grassy and grapefruit notes) and Sabro,(tropical, stone fruit, coconut) and a malt bill that adds some honey malt and oats to its pale malt base. The combination of all of this provides a unique flavour profile.

The beer pours a rich copper colour with a light haze and light carbonation. It is a creamy, medium-bodied beer with upfront sweetness from the Sabro hops and the malt bill, but back end bitterness from the Comet and Chinook hops. It has a huge foamy off white coloured head that provided a nice lacing on the glass while drinking it. Its overall light bitterness makes it an easily accessible IPA, even for the non-hopheads out there, and even with the bitterness at the end catching up, it still makes for a very easy and flavourful beer. Who says you can’t have the best of both “hop” worlds?
