Fuggles & Warlock The Four Hops IPA Review

Fuggles & Warlock Craftworks of Richmond has released a collaboration tribute to BC’s original beer radio show, Just Here For The Beer Radio. The collectible bottle’s label artwork features the brewery’s namesake duo alongside their radio friends Joe Leary and Rick Mohabir in a Motown-inspired illustrative portrait.

As part of their “Experimental IPA Series”, F&G brewed up an interesting combination of curiously-named hops, including Waimea, Yellow Sub, Enigma and Wai-Iti. As you’d expect with that type of concoction, the aroma and flavour are distinct from other IPAs you’ve tried. But not in a way that makes this  completely foreign; it’s still a nice fruity IPA that any hoppy beer enthusiast can identify with.

It poured with a good head and left nice lacing in the glass. On the palate the beer is full-bodied with a nice herbal, piney bitterness. The finish is clean. Alcohol content is substantial but it doesn’t come across as overly alcoholic. It’s a relatively easy-drinking beer.

This review happens to come late in 2018, when bottles of this IPA are harder to find, and it’s admittedly past the ideal date that a hop-centric IPA bottled in late spring (May) would typically be consumed. However, adjusting for some rounding off due to that unintended aging, the hop profile cut through well. This beer would be a great accompaniment for any number of foods including East Asian, South Asian and vegetarian cuisine.

By the way, this isn’t the first collab beer that JHFTB has been involved with. Here’s another one we’ve reviewed:
