Slackwater Brewing- New Boots, Who Dis?

Overview

Slackwater Brewing- New Boots, Who Dis? Review

The second release of the Pink Boots Blend to come out of Penticton, BC! This year’s first South Okanagan collaboration beer had women attend from suppliers – Gambrinus Malt and Ripley Stainless, to owners, taproom managers, office admins, and Jill of all trades from the host, Slackwater Brewing, with Cannery Brewing, Highway 97, Lakesider Brewing,  and Tin Whistle Brewing joining in. Mile 37 Mobile canning donated their cans and time for the project- third year in a row! And West Key Graphics came on board to print the labels.

About the “New Boots”: The model on the label, (created and time donated by BRAVE CREATIVE), is none other than Hops, a wonderful and easy-going rescue dog owned by Slackwater Brewing owners Liam and Kelsey Peyton. We assure you she was not harmed in the taking of this picture, as a matter of fact, she was spoiled with spent grain dog biscuits!

This year’s hop blend consisted of Loral, Azacca, El Dorado, and Idaho Gem, with a mixed aroma profile of citrus, tropical fruits, floral, grass, and wood. The decision from the Slackwater team was to pull out the tropical notes of the hops and augment them with fruit purees to create an easy-drinking but full-bodied, hop-forward fruity ale.

While the aroma of this beer is upfront stone fruit with some tropical  (pineapple)notes, one sip of this beer lets you know it is an IPA. The beer pours a light, hazy golden colour with just a thin layer of foam and light but tingly carbonation. The pineapple pushes to the front giving a slight fruity tartness, with the peach notes providing some creaminess and sweetness. The hops play in nicely here, making this beer crisp, yet the bitterness from the Pink Boots Blend hops shine through. A nice balance of fruit and hops, but at 4.2%, also easy drinking and refreshing.
