Persephone Brew The Change Mocha Porter

Overview

Persephone Brew The Change Mocha Porter Review

It’s a tradition! Persephone has used the title “Brew The Change” in a series of beers made with other community members in the last few years. In 2018, the label was applied to a Mocha Porter collaboration with Gulf Island additive suppliers Denman Island Chocolate and Salt Spring Coffee which is undeniably delicious.

Silky and oily on the palate, this beneficiary of Salt Spring’s Canopy Bird medium dark roast gives you that extra bit of perk you wouldn’t get without the coffee. Bring Your Porter To The Slaughter reports that it’s “brewed using 15 kg of 70%  Denman Island Chocolate in the kettle”, so if you’re a chocolate lover, you can be assured that this will hit the spot. If you swore off chocolate after the holiday season you can make an exception for this.

It pours cloudy, although due to to its dark complexion you’d have to hold it up to a light (as your humble reviewer did) to find out. Unsurprisingly, the coffee helps provide a fantastic aroma, placing this beverage ahead by a nose over other chocolate porters.

The mouthfeel isn’t quite as dense as some porters or stouts, but given the nature of this coffee-infused beverage it’s a good fit. Overall this was one of the better such beers this reviewer has enjoyed in the past year.
