Off The Rail Brewing – Comet Launcher Double IPA

Overview

Off The Rail Brewing – Comet Launcher Double IPA Review

Are you looking for a Christmas/Holiday beer release that does not taste like Christmas pudding or fruitcake? (Not that there’s anything wrong with that!), then look no further than the seasonal release from Off The Rail. Comet Launcher is a Double IPA! This beer was originally launched in March of this year in celebrataion of Off The Rail’s 3rd Anniversary, but has now been brought back as a Winter seasonal.

The Comet launcher is not only named for the main hop it uses, but also after one of Santa’s reindeers.

This full bodied ale pours a clear rich copper colour with a light off white foamy head that dissapates slowly. There is a hint of alcohol with the first whiff, but the aroma is all Comet and Simcoe  hops;pine, grapefruit and pineapple, a West Coast style IPA with a tropical twist! The flavour has a blend  of juiciness, sweetness and just enough bitterness to make you want more. At 7.5% this is almost too drinkable with the hops taking the stage. There is just enough malt presence to keep the hops from being too overpowering. A nice alternative to the malty Winter Warmers.
