Mariner Brewing – Polaris Hazy Northeast IPA

Overview

Mariner Brewing – Polaris Hazy Northeast IPA Review

Mariner Brewing opened in 2017 and is the first craft brewery to open in Coquitlam. As with any “firsts”, there were a few hoops to jump to make the opening of the brewery happen but Byron Vallis, experienced home brewer and his girlfriend Lauren Ang had the passion and tenancity ,(along with some key partners) to make it so. Head Brewer Kevin Smith ( from Russell Brewing, Dead Frog) right from the start created four core products to get the interest of beer geeks and non beer geeks alike.

As to be expected, the Polaris Hazy Northeast IPA is the most popular of the core lineup. Everyone loves a good hazy IPA :-). And,like most of the hazy NE- IPA’s they are higher in alcohol than the average IPA, and that alcohol is well hidden with the addition of oats and /or wheat for a creamy mouthfeel. Tropical hop aroma and sometimes overly sweet fruit flavours are another great way to hide that 7.5% abv. This ale combines those sweet tropical and stone fruit hop notes with just enough bitterness, slightly resiny mouthfeel which makes for a very creamy, yet crisp and not overly sweet – yes, balanced ale!
