Juicy Data Hazy IPA-Category 12 Brewing Review

Category 12’s Juicy Data was intended to be a one-off brew that was so popular that the brewery now plans to brew it frequently. With an abundance of hazy IPA’s on the market, Owner/brewer Michael Kuzyk still finds a way to put his scientific stamp on the style and a place in your fridge.

One of the first things one notices as one pours Juicy Data is that, although hazy, it avoids the extreme turbidity of some examples. With a SRM of 5.9, this beer is pale gold, nicely carbonated with a big, tight bubbled white head which leaves good lace. The four hops of Mosaic, Simcoe, El Dorado and Amarillo create a passion fruit, papaya, and guava aroma with a hint of grapefruit. The palate is full bodied with a creamy texture from the oats. The flavor shows peach, grapefruit and tropical citrus fruit. Juicy Data finishes with a slight yet noticeable bitterness.

Juicy Data is a well crafted and drinkable, as one would expect from the Category 12 team. If you enjoy hazy IPA’s then Juicy Data should definitely be on your hit list. Watch for other releases in the “Data” series in the future or pick up the equally delicious imperial strength Big Data.
