Gibsons Tapworks Inc- Crispy Buoy

Gibsons Tapworks Inc- Crispy Buoy Review

Beer awards are fun to engage with. At their best, beer awards will have you hunting down a beer you would have otherwise not known about or passed by, or retrying a beer you’ve had previously but looking at it in a new light. However, when they are not at their best, beer awards will sometimes have you scratching your head and wondering what happened at the judge’s table. The Canadian Beer Awards have, to be honest, more than their fair share of head-scratchers. Thankfully, it is clearly a case of the former rather than the latter when it comes to the well deserved Gold medal that went to Tapworks Brewing┬á Crispy Buoy in 2020.

Crispy Buoy is yellow with a medium white head that lingers well. It is well carbonated. The nose is mild floral hoppiness with some soda cracker maltiness. It has very good body, bordering on full. The taste is very clean with honey-like maltiness and mild, yet noticeable bitterness. The hops are soft and floral with a light hint of spiciness. Crispy Buoy shows all the signs of a very clean fermentation, as if the yeast was babied through with its feet propped up on soft satin pillows and every desire met. This shows in the incredible mouthfeel, which is certainly crispy but with a great smooth texture and creamy mouthfeel.
