Four Winds Brewing – Greg West Coast IPA

Overview

Four Winds Brewing – Greg West Coast IPA Review

In June of 2020, just weeks before Fathers Day, Greg Mills, father of Adam, Brent, Sean, and Brooke and also the President and Co-Founder of Four Winds Brewing died quietly and peacefully. It was a shock to the BC Craft beer industry and a sad time for the entire Four Winds staff and family.

As with everything Four Winds does, figuring out how to honour Greg was well thought out and done with style. The decision, in the end, was to tribute him with a beer, a well designed, yet classic West Coast IPA, the type and style of beer that the family would all be drinking together while dreaming and planning out the brewery. Greg loved the ocean and living on the West Coast, so from the label to the beer this is a true tribute for a legend in the industry!

The beer pours a light copper colour with light carbonation and a very thick mousse-like head of foam. With that first pour aromatics of grapefruit, pine and resin are released. It’s a medium-bodied beer that has the resin and grapefruit qualities that we remember from those first IPA’s ( think Central City IPA, Fat Tug IPA) came out, but more refined and softened. The 6.5% alcohol level is well hidden and while there is the distinctive resiny profile, it is not as mouth-puckering as some of those true Northwest Coast IPA’s we drank in the past, but more balanced allowing the citrusy notes to come through.

The beer was appropriately launched on Father’s Day.⁣ Let’s raise a glass for Greg ⁣🍻
