Dead Frog Brewing – Pineapple Midnight Tropical Porter

Dead Frog Brewing – Pineapple Midnight Tropical Porter Review

With the days getting lighter and longer our beer preferences sometimes start to navigate to the lighter beers, but Dead Frog Brewing created a beer that gives you that feeling of summer on its way but in a darker, porter style. Tropical Porter! Its a one time batch that gets released in February. Its a traditional style porter, malt-forward, rich brown colour, with notes of chocolate and caramel but with additions of coconut, pineapple, and passion fruit.

I have to admit that I was not expecting to like this beer, the combination seemed odd to me especially in a porter base but it worked and I was pleasantly surprised! And it is one of those beers that changes in flavour when you let it warm up a bit. While the coconut was the strongest in aroma and flavour at the beginning, the pineapple juiciness and tartness came through midway and blended in flavour quite nicely with the chocolates and caramel notes from the malts. This beer would complement any barbeque or curry dish and also as dessert, on its own or with ice cream.
