Correctamundo Cannoli Inspired Porter- Superflux Beer Company Review

An old adage in craft beer is to not fear the fifth ingredient beer. Superflux Beer Company throws out the Reinheitsgebot law, pins it to the ground, and lights it on fire with Correctamundo, a cannoli inspired porter. That is correct: it’s a cannoli beer. Superflux wants you to get over your fifth ingredient hesitation (you know you have it) and also your sixth, seventh and eighth ingredient hesitation with a porter that includes lactose, almonds, hazelnuts, cacao nibs, vanilla, sweet orange peel, and yes, actual cannolis in it’s ingredient list.

Correctamundo is almost black in the glass with a small tan head. It has a surprisingly roasty nose with nuts and lactose firmly present. It has a medium thin body and good carbonation. Smooth, creamy roastiness plays a part initially in the flavour but quickly turns to a sweet/not-too-sweet lactose finish. There is sweetness from the lactose but also vanilla and well attenuated dark malts. Correctamundo is definitely a pastry porter but is still nicely balanced for those hesitators.

Correctamundo pairs well with, well, cannolis. Counter intuitively, Correctamundo and cannoli pairs well not because of the harmonies but because the dark malt roastiness pushes to the forefront to help counter the sweetness of the cannolis.
