Central City Brewing – Red Racer After Hours: CBA “Beer of the Year” 2019 Review

The 17th Annual Canadian Brewing Awards & Conference is over for another year, with BC not only winning just under a third of those awards (50 in total), but also coming home with the Best of Show/Beer of the Year!!! Two-time CBA Brewery of the Year, Central City Brewers & Distillers won GOLD in the Experimental Beer category for their After Hours Pale Ale it also won BEER OF THE YEAR for that same beer.

The After Hours Pale ale is one in a series of beers created as a collaboration between Stuart McKinnon, distiller and Gary Lohin and his brew team. The Series is aptly named  “Spirit Series” and the After Hours is based after the Old Fashioned cocktail. It uses a blend of beer, award-winning in-house Lohin McKinnon scotch, award-winning in house bitters, orange zest and cherries.

This clear pale ale pours a rich copper colour with a slight off white head that dissipates quickly. The aroma is a blend of oak, whisky, oranges and cherry, just what you would expect from an Old Fashioned cocktail!

And, what about the taste? Start off with either two old-fashioned style crystal  or scotch glasses, as you will want to share this one and enjoy!  There is no need for the orange slice or cherry garnish, as it is already included. Cheers to the Beer of the year!
