Cannery Brewing – Ceres Mango Milkshake IPA

Overview

Cannery Brewing – Ceres Mango Milkshake IPA Review

Every year several members of the Pink Boots Society get together with hop farmers at Yakima Valley Chief Hops to create a special blend of hops(Pink Boots Blend) that not only is used by women in the brewing industry around the world to create a unique beer, but $3 per pound sold goes back to the Pink Boots Society scholarship fund.

This year’s hop blend consisted of Loral, Azacca, El Dorado and Idaho Gem, with a mixed aroma profile of citrus, tropical fruits, floral, grass, and wood. Any brewery using these hops could brew whatever style they wanted and the choice for Cannery Brewing this year was a Mango Milkshake IPA. The Name of the beer Ceres is after the Roman Goddess of agriculture and grain crops and is the second in a series that Cannery Brewing has done.

It is a Double IPA ( 8.25), and it pours into a glass, like a milkshake with a huge release of mango and vanilla. Its definitely mango in colour with very low carbonation, minimal head and creamy smooth. To add to the flavour profile, in come the hops. The hop blend helps to round out the tropical, stone fruit notes with the citrus and grassiness cutting into the sweetness of the mango puree to create a pleasant balance.

If I were to pair it with food, aside from the obvious bowl of creamy vanilla ice cream, it would be a perfect addition to a mango curry served with a bed of coconut rice. Cheers!
