Bayview Brewing Co.- Down By the Bay Watermelon Gose Review

Ladysmith, BC, located between Duncan and Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, has its very first brewery. Bayview Brewing is run by the core group of owners Jonny Ludtke, Rod Alsop, Sarah handling the front of house, and Alfred Elviss the brewing. The brewery is quite tiny with what appears to be more patio than brewing space. It is located in a mostly residential area with one of the owners living one door over. Make sure to give him cheers if you see him doing yard work!

While there try the IPAs, the dessert sours that taste like liquid pie, and the daily soup. Also the watermelon gose.

The watermelon gose, called Down By The Water, is clear yellow with a billowing white head. The mild aroma is of watermelon, grain, and sourdough. Initially, it is a dry, crisp beer with a bready flavour before a huge hit of beautiful fresh watermelon juice. This is followed by the expected salinity which also creates a mild viscous mouthfeel. There is a mild tartness throughout with little or no hoppiness or bitterness. The finish is dry with a lingering saltiness and a hint of watermelon. Seasonal and on tap only!
