Andina Brewing – Brumosa Hazy IPA – Wai-iti Batch 5

Andina Brewing – Brumosa Hazy IPA – Wai-iti Batch 5 Review

In early 2019, head brewer, Ben Greenberg created Andina’s first hazy IPA – “Brumosa”. At the time it was thought to be a limited release, and, in a way it was. What started off as a one time brew,  the “original” Brumosa, (reviewed last year, see below) was so popular, it was added on to their core line up. And now, in addition to the original version, Ben has created limited release batches using unique and fun hops for a twist.

The Brumosa “Wai-iti” hazy IPA is the latest batch-batch 5 using the fairly recently released Wai-iti hop from New Zealand, known for its lime and stone fruit aromatics. The first thing you will notice about this version compared to the original is how hazy, thick and opaque it is. And instead of being a bright copper colour, similar to a West Coast IPA, it resembles the colour of fruit pulp.

The lime aromatics of this hop are very prominent, with hints of pineapple and mango, but while the actual taste still has citrus notes, the stone fruit (pineapple, peach, guava ) take over making this, to me, reminiscent of a candied fruit cocktail! This beer is full-bodied, mouth-coating, creamy, sweet, and with a hint of bitterness, and very easy to drink :-) Now looking forward to what batch VI will bring!
