The Great Okanagan Beer Festival Announces Opening Act Competition
NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR ARTISTS AND BANDS TO PLAY THE MAIN EVENT ON MAY 11, 2019

Great Okanagan Beer Festival (GOBF) wants you to help them decide who performs at GOBF2019 on May 11, 2019 at Waterfront Park. The Opening Act Competition aims to provide a local musician the opportunity to play a 60-minute set and showcase their talents to an audience of over 3,000+.
“Kelowna has such a wealth of amazing musicians and we really wanted to tap into that, and engage our fans” says Katrina Frew, Director of Festivals & Events at Gibbons Whistler. “This is an opportunity for the locals to let us know who they want to see perform at the fest, as well as ultimately playing a part in the decision by voting.”
Interested musicians can fill out an online application here. From these applicants four musicians will be selected by a panel of judges, and these four finalists will go on to compete head to head in an online bracket-style voting competition conducted through a Facebook poll on the GOBF Facebook page.
Applications are open to any artists or bands 19 years of age and older within the Greater Okanagan area. Applicants will be required to submit two song recordings, a photo, and provide a link to a live performance video along with the online application form. Online applications close December 19, 2018 at 11:59 PM. A panel of judges will review the applicants and select four finalists, who will be announced on January 7, 2019 through the GOBF Facebook page.
These finalists will be matched up by a random selection process and compete head to head in an online bracket-style voting competition. Voting for round one will be live on Facebook from January 7, 2019 – January 14, 2019. The two musicians with the most votes will advance to the second and final round of voting. The second and final round of voting will be live on Facebook from January 16, 2019 to February 3, 2019. The artist with the most votes will be crowned the Winner and will play a 60-minute set on May 11, 2019 at GOBF2019.
The Main Event takes place May 11, 2019 at Waterfront Park in Kelowna and features over 60 breweries, 120 ciders and brews, live music, food trucks, and more! Advanced Tickets are on sale now for a limited time.
