Fresh off of producing this year’s Great Canadian Beer Festival for the first time, the Victoria Beer Society is back at it with the 7th annual Victoria Beer Week. This year’s list of expanded events are more diverse than ever, with something for absolutely everyone. From the big events like Lift Off! and All About the Wood,to food and beer pairing focussed events like Publicans Picks, Taco Tuesday and Street Eats Brewery Tour, to the expanded Beer School, this year’s VBW is shaping up to be the best ever.
The bigger events of VBW (usually held at the Victoria Public Market) are always a blast. They include a new one for this year: Lager Than Life. Lager has made a huge turnaround in the BC craft beer scene of late, and many couldn’t be happier about that. Don’t expect just your uncle’s favorite lite pale lager, but rather the whole range of the lager flavour spectrum from Kölsch to Bock to Schwarzbier.
For a long time beer lovers have known that wine isn’t the only alcohol that pairs well with food. This year’s VBW will have you nibbling on tasty treats while imbibing a well-paired brew like never before. Food and beer pairing events are not new to VBW, but the Publican’s Picks is. This event is hosted by Spinnakers Brewpub’s Paul Hadfield, one of BC brewing’s great storytellers. If one beer dinner isn’t enough for you then check out the aforementioned Street Eats Brewery Tour, Taco Tuesday, Brewmaster’s Brunch or Food+Beer=Delicious.
