Bridge Brewing Pumpkin Porter Review Bridge Brewing Co. – Pumpkin Porter Review

Bridge Brewing has entered the Pumpkin game with a Porter that is simply called the Pumpkin Porter. This beer comes in 650ml bottles and weighs in at 4.5% alcohol and 25 IBUs. Pouring from the bottle the beer is a very dark brown colour with a finger and a half of dense, lightly lacing head. The aroma from this beer is porter first and pumpkin second. While many pumpkin beers can be overpowering this one has a nice chocolate tone to it along with a mellow spice character of cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla. The subtlety of the pumpkin and spice is such that it is evident to be there but not overpowering. The flavour and body are lighter than expected. Tasting blind, you may guess that this is more of a brown ale than a porter. The light mouthfeel leads into a toasted malt character and subtle spice. The spice is somewhat reminiscent of Pumpkin Pie but subdued and unoffensive in nature. If you are looking for a sweet and spicy fall beer this isn’t the beer for you. If on the other hand, you are a fan of sessionable dark beers with a mellow seasonal spice then you are in luck with Bridge Brewing’s Pumpkin Porter.
