Swans Brewpub Venatrix Doppelbock Review Swans Brewpub – Venerator Doppelbock Review

Victoria’s Swans Brewery has released the Venerator, a doppelbock that comes in 650ml bottles and tips the scale at 7.5% alcohol. This elegantly labelled beer pours a colour of dark chocolate and the glass is topped with two fingers of dark, lacing head. The aroma is of toffee, caramel, toasted malt and a light dried cherry character. The aroma is complex, dark and enticing. Tasting the beer, a woodiness comes though despite not being barrel aged along side a toffee and rich toasted character. chocolate makes an appearance with the lingering wood character that is somewhat hickory like. This German styled, strong dark lager is complex, balanced and rich making for a big beer for the spring. The Venerator is a bottle worth picking up to share with friends.
