Steamworks & Dageraad Brewing East of East Van Collaboration Ale Review Steamworks & Dageraad Brewing – East of East Van Bottle Conditioned Saison with Black Lime & White Pepper Review

Burnaby’s two craft breweries have teamed up to brew a collaboration beer called the East of East Van. This is a Bottle Conditioned Saison that has Black Lime and White Pepper in the recipe. From the 750ml bottle this beer has a cloudy-straw colour and is topped with two fingers of head that settles without a trace. The aroma is filled with Saison yeast character and a mild peppery spice. The lime too comes through with clarity but in a somewhat subtle manner. Tasting the beer it is light on the tongue and starts off in a traditional manner. The classic Saison flavour comes through up front then builds with the lime and pepper character.  Soon the pepper spice tickles the back of the throat while mild lime acidity also comes into play. Overall this is a fairly traditional Saison but with a subtle twist of citrus and peppery spice.
