Spinnaker's Brewery Honey Mussel Saison Review Spinnaker’s Brewery – Honey Mussel Saison Review

There are a few BC Beers that are brewed with ocean-bearing ingredients but the Spinnaker’s Brewery Honey Mussel Saison is one of a kind. Brewed using locally farmed Honey Muscles this Saison is not your typical beer. From the bomber bottle the beer pours as a light golden colour and has virtually no head whatsoever. The lack of head suggests a very light carbonation. The beer has a french saison smell to it with wheat notes, pear and a mild sweetness on the nose. Tasting the beer it is very lightly carbonated which is a bit odd for a saison. The low carbonation enhances the sweetness factor as well. The pear flavour comes through with some intensity along with the wheat and malt flavours from the mid body. The finish is fairly sweet and has a distinct flavour to it. The beer does not taste like mussels but it is clear that there is something a bit different that adds a unique twist to the flavour.
