Duncan BC’s Red Arrow Brewing has come out with a limited release beer called the Chocolate Cherry Porter. Styled after its rather descriptive name this dessert-inspired beer pours from the bomber bottle a dark brown colour with a finger’s worth of lightly lacing head. On the nose comes an aroma of bittersweet chocolate and a maraschino-like cherry tone. Memories of black forest cake come to mind after smelling the beer. Tasting the beer too brings forth a wave of flavour. A dark cherry sweetness comes into frame early on and is reminiscent of a chocolate covered maraschino cherry. The sweetness is balanced by a light and creamy chocolate bitterness but does come across on the sweeter side of things. The candy like cherry tones are right up front and linger while the chocolate flavour acts as a base for the sweetness. If you are a fan of Black Forrest Cake then this may just be your slice!
