Spinnaker’s Brewery Barrel Aged Cerveza Reposado Review
The Spinnaker’s Brewery has tried something new in their Brewers Reserve Series of beers – they have aged their Cerveza Reposado in Mexican tequila barrels. From the 650ml bottle the Cerveza Reposado pours a colour of lightly clouded, golden straw. The beer is topped with two fingers of loose and lightly lacing head. Smelling the beer gives a strong tequila barrel sharpness along with a slightly sour, citrus and spicy note on the nose. The aroma is intriguing but a little on the harsh side of things. the body is well carbonated and the beer has a fairly strong tequila flavour to it with an oak tone along side. A salty, citrus flavour adds to the tequila experience and makes for a refreshing flavour to balance out the stronger flavours. The Cerveza Reposado is a relatively light beer at 5.0% but stands tall in flavour with a strong tequila flavour and Mexican twist that makes me dream of a winter vacation on the beaches of Cancun.
