Parallel 49 Brewing Sour White AleParallel 49 Brewing Co. – 2015 Sour White Ale Review

Parallel 49 Brewing Company is in the sour game and is playing a unique hand with a Sour White Ale. This wheat based sour is reasonably strong at 7.5% and has stirred up some conversation among BC sour beer fans. From the 650ml bottle the Sour White Ale pours as a rich golden colour with a thin finger of quick to settle head. From the beer comes a sharp and grape-like aroma with notes of chardonnay and oak. The beer’s scent is sharp and slightly pungent with sour. The flavour is not as sharp as the scent forecast with the oak tones adding a bit more body and depth than expected. The beer is sour but the chardonnay flavour along with the oak notes and wheat base and big carbonation make for a well balanced, smooth and quite enjoyable sour. The Sour White Ale is not the biggest sour on the market, nor is it the smallest. If you are a sour fan, or recently found the joy that can from from a sour beer this is a great example for the balance and complexity of a middle-ground sour beer.
