The Main Street Brewery has released the Wesminister Brown Ale. The Beer’s label is adorned with a rendition of the New Westmister coat of arms featuring two opposing lions. The beer appears as a rather dark chestnut-brown colour topped with two fingers of head. As the head slowly settles a thick layer of lacing is left behind on the glass. An aroma of English-style hop, citrus, a touch of molasses and a malted tone backing it all up comes together in a fairly complex package. The flavour is deeper than your typical brown ale with a defined hop bitterness following a big, malty body. A citrus-tartness and molasses bitter-sweetness make for a dry, unique and diversely flavoured beer. If you are hoping for a chocolate-malt package like many browns this is not it. If you are interested in trying something quite different and a unique twist on BC-brown ale tradition the Westminster Brown Ale is a great option for you.
