An oaked English Strong Ale with a strong Kick of Tenessey Whiskey
Victoria’s 4 Mile Brewing has released a Bourbon Barrel Aged English Strong Ale. This unique and very strong bottle is wax dipped to ensure it’s freshness in the months (or years) to come. Aged in Tenessee Bourbon barrels the brew is dubbed a “Southern Pedegree” and you are encouraged to think chicken fried steak, biscuits and gravy and BBQ boasting sauce when pairing with food. From the waxed bottle this English Strong Ale pours as a dark brown colour resembling a barley wine in colour and clarity and is topped with two finger of head. The aroma from this strong beer is rather boozy with an oaked-toffee scent which forcasts a rather intense flavour to come. In tasting the beer you will find a thick and creamy body but not the intensity that you may expect. It is clear that the beer has a high alcohol content but the flavour is not boozy. A strong whisky-oak flavour takes over the English Ale notes and gives a certain earthiness to the taste. A mild English-styled hop tone comes into the picture but remains mellow compared to the main flavours. This beer is unique by BC standards and offers something rather different in the line of barrel aged beers. If you enjoy English Ales and bit of Tennessey Whiskey this could just be your new favourite beer.
