The Growler Magazine Beer EducationIf you have made your way to a craft brewery in Vancouver recently there is a decent chance that you stumbled upon the latest BC craft beer publication, The Growler. This small, quarterly magazine has made waves in Vancouver craft beer with a stylish and educational approach to craft beer news.

The first quarterly issue of The Growler highlights the Vancouver based craft breweries that we have come to love plus new kids on the block such as East Vancouver’s Off The Rail Brewing Company. In a balance of brewery and beer highlights, education pieces and a speckling of advertorial and advertising this is a fresh approach to craft beer print media in BC.

The Growler Craft Beer Magazine CrewThe launch of this new publication from Vancouver’s Glacier Media was relatively unassuming but following a soft launch the team behind the project assembled to make a splash. Inviting the breweries featured in the inaugural issue, brewers, media and the editorial team assembled at the Olympic Village CRAFT Beer Market restaurant for a pint and a small celebration. What started as a blog concept many moons ago evolved into what we see and can touch today. Iterations of ideas came forth in creating the magazine and we will inevitably see that evolution continue in future issues.

CRAFT Vancovuer Fish TacosVolume 1 of The Growler is a 64 page, 5×7 print that you can tuck into your pocket as you tour the best of Vancouver craft beer. The relatively small dimensions will likely stay put but the page count will predictably rise. Targeting the addition of Victoria breweries for round two the publication will inevitably thicken with new breweries opening and a broader targeted area.

An initial print run of 5000 copies has dwindled quickly with a price tag of $0.00 but there still are a few copies remaining throughout the greater Vancouver area. You can count on the fact that print runs will be at least double for round two with no sign of growth stopping there. The Growler will undoubtedly become a staple for the bar-counters of local craft brewers and retailers and for the bookshelves of BC craft beer drinkers.

Volume 1 was a wonderful read. I would pay for a subscription if they take any.

I agree with Phoenix00, you need a subscription. You are missing a HUGE target market by making it available only at Craft.
