Arrowhead Brewing Co. – I’m So Freaking Hoppy Imperial IPA Review
From Invermere BC comes the appropriately names I’m So Freaking Hoppy Imperial IPA. This big, Frankenstein worthy beer may be hard to find in Vancouver but it is worth seeking out to have a taste of BC’s eastern reaches of craft beer. This Imperial IPA pours from the bottle as an amber-copper colour with a thick finger’s worth of head. The head is thick and dense and leaves light lacing on the glass’s sides as it slowly settles. From the beer comes an aroma of piney hops, caramel, grapefruit and a certain smoothness on the nose. The body is smooth and lighter than you may expect. The flavour is filled with caramel sweetness, a light citrus flavour and a northwest, piney hop. The citrus and caramel balance out the hop in a very enjoyable, and not overly bitter IPA flavour. This beer is surprisingly sessionable and the caramel tones add a level of complexity to what is expected to be a very hoppy beer.
