Dageraad Brewing Co. – Anno 2014 Belgian Strong Ale Review
Dageraad Belgian Brewery has released a Winter Seasonal offering called the Anno, an unfiltered Belgian Strong Ale. This beer is labelled as being a “Belgian-Style strong golden ale brewed with Keremeos pears and Indian Coriander” From the elegantly labelled bottle the Anno pours a cloudy, golden-straw colour with two fingers of head which settles relatively quickly leaving minor lacing on the glass. On the nose the Anno smells of Belgian yeasts, a coriander-wheat forward body and a subtle fruit sweetness from the pear tones. In the flavour a well carbonated, big body kicks things off into a strong wheat-corriander flavour which has a kick of booze to it. As the booziness settles the coriander and a pear-sweetness come through in the final notes giving a touch of sweetness which helps to cut the alcohol flavour. This is a unique use of fruit in a Belgian, Golden Ale which is perfect for a holiday celebration in the months ahead.
