Steamworks Brewing Flagship IPA BottleSteamworks Brewing Company – Flagship IPA Review

Steamworks’ new Flagship IPA has come out of the corner swinging, picking up Gold for North American IPA as well as Best in Show from the 2016 BC Beer Awards.  The beer pours from the 355mL bottle a cloudy orange colour with two fingers of off-white head that lingers leaving some lacing on the glass.  Flagship gives off very juicy aromas of pineapple, mango, and orange, along with notes of guava and mild caramel tones.  The flavour is intensely of tropical fruit, along with lychee, passion fruit, mango, and orange, yet the malt flavours are rather subdued.  The body is light and rather creamy, with bitterness present but overpowered by juicy hop tones, and fading fairly quickly.  An accessible IPA due to the juicy and fruity aromas and flavours Flagship is definitely a must try.

Alcohol – 6.7%
IBU – 65
Hops – Mosaic, Galaxy, Citra
Malts – Premium 2-Row Caramalt, Carapils, Oat Malt
Size – 355mL

I’m not only excited about this beer (because it’s great) but what it could me for the quality and experimental nature of their future releases.

Steamworks IPA’s have sucked in the past, so I’m excited to try this new one. And congrats on the award and recognition!

One of my two favourite BC brews, the other being Yellow Dog’s “Chase My Tail” pale Ale

Is it supposed to have stuff suspended in it? “Floaty stuff”???

Flagship is a cloudy IPA so if your bottle has been sitting for a while it could be that there was some sediment on the bottom. A quick swirl of your bottle or glass should mix that back into suspension. Nothing to worry about.

So the white floaty stuff is intentional? There’s a difference between “cloudy” and snow globe. This looks like it should be sold as a Christmas ale. LOL

It’s definitely ‘turbid’, though I’ve not seen it like you describe. If it doesn’t mix back in or smells off then I’d contact the store or the brewery for an exchange if you’re concerned.

Sounds like fair advice. I have sampled it and it’s not “off”. Perhaps just more “turbid”, as you say, than I anticipated. Quite tasty so far. Nice citrusy flavour. Other than looking like something from Flint, it’s very enjoyable. I’ll just close my eyes and enjoy it. LOL
