Named after the Kettle Valley Railway the Okanagan Rail Trail Common Ale is a California Common Ale that is brewed in Kelowna BC. Sold in the Tree Brewing Mixer 12-pack this beer pours from the 355ml can as a fairly dark copper colour and is topped with nearly three fingers of dense and lacing head. A malt forward aroma comes through in spades with a toasty and bready like character and light caramel sweetness. For a California Common this is rather malty, dark and toasted but still rather intriguing. Tasting the beer it is too malt forward with a light and smooth body. The toasted notes take control with a bitterness that coincides with the light caramel sweet tones. An almost coffee-like bitterness hits the palate in the later moments of the flavour and gives a pleasant balance of malt and hop tones. This is a very malty beer and not your typical summer-session beer but it is none-the-less very enjoyable.
