Four Winds Brewing – Operis Brett Saison Review
In the Eurus Series of bottle conditioned beers from Four Winds Brewing comes the Operis, A Brett Saison in a champagne corked, 750ml bottle. After popping the cork the beer enters the glass with three fingers of bubbly head atop a lightly clouded, golden coloured ale. From the Operis comes an aroma of sour fruit, earthiness and a Belgian-funk. The Operis is big on the Brett and the aroma is quite intense. The Body is smooth but still light. The first notes from this beer are lightly sour with a citrus note that adds a kick of flavour. This soon settles into an earthy-saison flavour with wheat notes, earthiness and a dryer than expected finish. The Brett Tones give a well crafted Saison a hit of sour and earthiness in a tasty and unique beer. The Operis is a great way to experience Brett-Yeast flavour as the different flavour profiles that it brings are clearly evident and put forth in a delicious manner. Another winner from Four Winds Brewing!

I went to the local private liquor store to buy a bottle of this. However, at $15 with tax, I decided to give it a miss.
I really want to support local craft breweries, but I think they have to be aware that they are pushing the boundaries of reasonable prices for beer. I don’t mind paying premium prices for an aged beer, I understand the extra expense involved. But when the price of a 750ml bottle of beer is pushing what a reasonable quality bottle of wine would cost me – no thanks.
This beer was quite a bit cheaper before the government raised prices. When the removed tax from the shelf price they also jacked the price of booze. Breweries are really feeling the pinch from this as it hurts their bottom line. They have to reduce their margins just to get to these prices on barrel aged beer.
Haven’t had this since the name change but it is a great beer.
You can buy it for $6.00 a bottle at Four Winds
