Spinnakers Brewpub – Jolly Hopper Imperial IPA
One of the biggest beers to ever come from the Spinnaker’s Brewpub is the Jolly Hopper. As the label declares, “Surrender thy tastebuds” to the whopping 100 IBU and 8.0% ABV rating. This big and strong Imperial IPA appears a clear and fairly deep amber colour with a finger and a half of lightly lacing head. The Jolly Hopper smells of a strong, lightly boozy, well hopped IPA with a creaminess to it. Big and bold this beer smells of a strong, northwest style imperial IPA. The taste kicks things off with a creamy texture that builds into a strong hop-bitterness along side a light caramel sweetness. The bitterness has a defined pine-note to it but balanced with more European style hops the northwest style is balanced with a more traditional flavour. The booze content is apparent but never takes foo much of the attention. This is a quality, big imperial IPA that steps things up a notch or two for the Spinnaker’s Brewpub.
