Barkerville Brewing Releases Promise to Sophia Valentines Ale
PRESS RELEASE — FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Barkerville Brewing Stakes Claim to Valentine’s Beer
Promise to Sophia valentine ale tells romantic story of love and loyalty during the Cariboo gold rush
QUESNEL, BRITISH COLUMBIA (01/26/2014) – Barkerville Brewing Co. has released a special seasonal ale to celebrate both Valentine’s Day and their one year anniversary. Available starting the end of January throughout BC in decorative 650 ml bottles and on tap at select craft beer bars, Promise to Sophia is a slightly sweet 6.9% alc./vol. milk stout flavoured with vanilla and anise.
Described as a “valentine ale,” the bottle’s distinctive pink label tells the achingly tragic yet romantic tale of Sophia Cameron and her husband’s pledge to ensure she was buried at home in Ontario should she fall victim to the hardships of the Cariboo gold rush.
After opening February 4, the busiest sales day of 2014 at the Barkerville tasting room in Quesnel was February 14. “To capitalize on the popularity of beer as a valentine’s present, we thought it would be an interesting experiment to offer a beer that women would enjoy receiving as a gift,” explains Justine Pelletier, General Manager, a nod to the fact women are becoming an increasingly important segment of the craft beer market. “We wanted to do something a little more romantic than a growler, and in a package designed to delight.”
