Stanley Park Brewing Salted Watermelon Sour Review
Available from April – September, the Salted Watermelon Sour is from Stanley Park Brewing’s Sapling Series. This gose-style beer is kettle soured and brewed with coriander, sea salt, citra hops, and natural watermelon flavour.
While I suspected this beer might be strong on the watermelon notes, it’s not. The citra brings out the tropical fruit aroma and flavours, and the watermelon flavour is subtle. The citra works well with the beer to give it a prominent fruit profile including mango, guava, and lemon. The beer is well-balanced with a light malt profile, very low bitterness (5 IBUs), slight saltiness (gose-style), and a slight tartness from the kettle souring.
The beer was highly carbonated, taking its time to dissipate. No bitter aftertaste, it doesn’t linger on the palate, but the saltiness comes through at the end.
