Prince George’s CrossRoads Brewing Works With Central City’s Gary Lohin

CrossRoads Brewing Secures Equipment and Advisor from Leading BC Craft Brewery

Prince George, BC – CrossRoads Brewing co-founders Bjorn Butow and Daryl Leiski are pleased to announce they have secured the original brewhouse equipment from Central City Brewers & Distillers, one of BC’s most accomplished craft breweries. This equipment was used during the first 10 years at Central City to produce at its peak 8,000 hectolitres (2.2 million cans) annually of World Beer Cup winning beer. In late 2013 they moved to a much larger production facility, with equipment capable of producing 100,000 hectolitres annually.

The equipment was built in BC by Newlands Systems, known internationally for its high quality brewery equipment. Many respected craft breweries use Newlands including Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, Driftwood Brewing, Ninkasi Brewing, and Steamworks Brewing. The equipment arrives in Prince George this summer.

One of BC’s most respected and legendary brewers has agreed to join CrossRoads as an advisor/mentor. Gary Lohin is co-owner and Brewmaster at Central City, twice named Canada’s Brewery of the Year. Gary got his start at Whistler Brewing in the late 1980s, then Okanagan Springs, before starting Sailor Hagar’s, the first brew-pub in Vancouver. He co-founded Central City in 2003 in Surrey, BC.

“Gary’s relentless focus on quality and flavor is why his flagship Red Racer IPA is widely considered one of BC’s best beers,” said Leiski. “We really want to ensure we get started on the right foot. Gary will help us build a great craft brewery and hire a team to produce high quality, fantastic craft beer in the north.”

Currently work is proceeding on a number of fronts to open later this year, including the recruiting of two key staff. The first role is an innovative Head Brewer to helm beer production and day-to-day brewing operations, and second a passionate Manager to helm the customer experience and day-to-day business operations. The job postings, and details of how to apply, can be found on our brewery website at www.crossroadscraft.com

“We’re looking to recruit a brewer with brewpub or production brewery experience that wants to take his or her career to the next level,” says Butow. “In both roles we’re really hoping to find enthusiastic individuals who want to live in a great community, join a brewery at the ground level, learn from Gary and others, and have fun delivering a great brewery experience.”

CrossRoads Brewing is a craft brewery opening in downtown Prince George in the fall of 2016. CrossRoads represents Prince George at the geographical centre of the province, highlighted by the convergence of the Nechako and Fraser rivers, the intersection of Highways 16 and 97, and the crossing of the railway. CrossRoads also references the critical decisions that are made at key moments in life. You can follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and at www.crossroadscraft.com
