The Barley Merchant is a brand new, independently owned, 200 seat restaurant & taproom that has been developed by a small, local group of hospitality professionals. We are BIG fans of BC craft beer and are very excited to curate an extensive selection of it for our guests to enjoy! All sourced exclusively from around the province. We will also be serving up craft ciders, spirits and wine also exclusively from BC. With 50 taps, we will always have something pouring to please everyone’s palate. We will be pairing all that with our upscale gastropub menu developed with an emphasis on fresh, local ingredients, prepared with a little handcrafted creativity.

We are currently seeking applicants for our Guest Service Manager and Bar Manager positions. We are looking for candidates who share our passion for craft beer and serving BC products, to join our team and work with us in launching our exciting new concept. As leaders of the front of house, they will embrace our philosophy of providing genuine hospitality and take a hands on approach in supporting their team through every step of the guest service experience.

For these positions, we are seeking those with many of the following attributes:

  • 2+ years of managerial / leadership experience in a high volume restaurant
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about BC craft beer
  • Experience in ordering, setting pars and managing inventory. (Bar Manager)
  • Experience preparing service team schedules (Guest Service Manager)
  • Experience with hiring, training and leading a team
  • High standards for quality and cleanliness.
  • Exceptional communication, organization and supervisory skills
  • Comfortable using programs like Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Understands the business side of restaurants with a focus on liquor and labour costs
  • Available to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays
  • Valid Serving it Right certification

Other skills / experience that would be an asset but are not required; Restaurant opening experience, Food Safe Level 1 Certificate, Emergency First Aid Certificate and familiarity with the following software programs; Optimum Control Inventory Management, TouchBistro POS, 7Shifts Scheduling.
