Overview

Vancouver Island & Gladstone Brewing Burton Strong Ale Review Vancouver Island Brewing Co. & Gladstone Brewing Co. – Burton Ale Review

Described as the style of beer that inspired the IPA, The Burton Ale is a strong amber ale from Vancouver Island Brewery collaborating with Gladstone Brewery. This beer pours from the bomber bottle as a deep brown colour with a finger’s worth of off-white, lightly lacing head. The aroma is strong with bit roasted malt character and a molasses like toasted-sweetness. The hops here are mellow behind the overpowering roasted character. Tasting the Burton Ale it too has a strong molasses flavour that has a mellow burnt character that is followed by a lingering bitterness. It is a stretch to make a link to the IPA but inspiration comes in many forms. Perhaps closer to a deeply toasted brown ale or porter this is a unique beer that has flavours that are not often found in BC craft beer. If you like strong beers with rich malt character this is a beer that might be right up your alley.
