Backcountry Brewing Widowmaker IPA Review Backcountry Brewing Co. – Widowmaker IPA Review

Squamish BC’s Backcountry Brewing has release the Widowmaker IPA in 473ml cans. This beer is 6.7% alcohol, 50 IBUs and comes in a rather nicely designed can. Pouring the beer from the can it is a cloudy golden colour with noticeable pieces of sediment suspended in the beer. Through the finger of lacing head comes a blend of pine, grapefruit, pineapple and citrus aroma in a well-hopped package. Tasting the beer it has a bigger malt base than expected and a significant sweetness to the flavour. This sweetness cuts the IBUs and doesn’t come across as being all that bitter for an IPA. The fruit character also comes in early with the pineapple, passion fruit, grapefruit and orange notes building into a relatively sweet, fruit-salad flavour. Perhaps a touch too sweet the tropical fruit flavours take charge and leave a lingering fruit sweetness and mellow hop bitterness behind.

Alcohol – 6.7%
IBU – 50
