Yellow Dog and Steel & Oak Karaoke Doppelbock Review Yellow Dog Brewing Co. & Steel & Oak Brewing – Karaoke Showdown Hoppy Doppelbock Review

Steel & Oak Brewing teamed up with Yellow Dog to brew a Doppelbock and threw a few extra hops into the mix. From a 473ml can this beer is amber-copper in colour and has a thick finger of head that settles on the glass. The aroma is light for a doppelbock with a distinct hop character. The aroma is more of a pale ale or ESB than a doppelbock but there is a richness and creamy-booze character in the mix. Tasting the beer it has a creamy texture and rich malty sweetness which leads into a pine-hop bitterness. This is not your typical doppelbock being lighter in colour and less rich in flavour. Plus, the hops add a non-traditional note to the German-styled beer. Purists may argue that this isn’t a doppelbock but others may rebut with the fact that is is quite tasty and has a west coast twist that adds an enjoyable uniqueness to the beer.
