Riot Brewing ESB review Riot Brewing Co. – Barcode Blues Bitter Review

One of Riot Brewing’s first seasonal releases is a bomber bottle of their ESB, the Barcode Blues Bitter. Likely named after a labeling error, this beer is copper in colour and has two fingers of lightly lacing head. The aroma is mildly sweet with a malty-caramel note and a subtle hop bitterness. Tasting the beer it is light bodied and has a toasted character on the tongue. This works with the hop tones and caramel notes to add a bitter-sweetness into the mix. The mouthfeel is almost powdery with a dryness to it which leaves a lingering bitterness at the back of the tongue. This beer is a fairly traditional ESB with perhaps a touch more bitterness than most. It is enjoyable and has a nice west coast flavour for an Extra Special Bitter styled brew.
