Trading Post Brewing – Capt. Cooper’s Tart Cranberry Ale Review

Trading Post Brewing has canned their Captain Coopers Tart Cranberry Ale. This beer is sold in 4 pack of 473ml cans and comes in at 5.9% alcohol. Pouring from the can the beer is a reddish hue from the cranberry juice content. This beer has a finger’s worth of head and smells tart with sweet and sour cranberry tones that come through in spades. Taking a sip of the beer it starts off with notes of cranberry and builds into a puckering sour mid-section. As the kick of intense sour fades a lingering wheat character and subtle sweetness are left behind. In this beer the cranberry tones are strong enough to be clear in what they are but not so much that it is overpowering. The sourness on the other hand is quite intense. The Captain Cooper’s is a local history and seasonally inspired brew that will surely be to the liking of BC’s intense Sour Ale seekers.
