Barkerville Brewing came out with the Stern Wheeler as one of their early seasonal releases. No. 6 in the brewing count this ship has seen a new coat of paint with a new look to the label as a part of the Barkerville Brewing brand face-lift. From the 650ml bottle this Scotch Ale is a deep reddish-brown colour that is topped with a thin finger of head. The aroma is toasted and malty with notes of caramel, toffee and light smoke. Tasting the beer it has a creamy body that props up a sweet, malty flavour that is rich with toffee flavours. Toffee has notes of both sweetness and light burnt character while caramel and smoke also play a role. This beer is sweet for a Scotch Ale but hits the spot as a bigger bodied, fall and winter sipper.
