Category 12 Brewing’s Elemental series of special release beers includes their Dry Hopped Sour Ale. This beer is a kettle sour that is dry hopped using new hop varieties including Hull Melon and Mandarina Bavaria which highlight tropical fruit flavours. From the Bomber bottle this beer appears from the bottle a colour of straw that is lightly clouded. Topped with nearly three fingers of head which settles moderately fast this beer smells of melon citrus and grapefruit in an acidic, fruity way. Sour tones are front and centre but the hop tones add some additional depth to the aroma. Tasting the beer it is very tart with a hit of puckering sour right off the bat. The sour tones continue while the citrus and melon tones build along side. This beer also uses some wild yeast which adds to a somewhat dry-sour finish with a touch of straw flavour. This beer is definitely on the sour side of things but is still light and quite refreshing.
